The Art of Being Mary
Although I was born in New York City, I’ve been a Jersey Girl since age 2. And, as soon as I could hold a crayon, I became an artist.
I loved illustrations in books—from my Little Golden Books to the antics of Beezus and Ramona, Henry, and Homer. When I read the illustrated adventures of the Borrowers, Dr. Doolittle, and Mr. Popper and his penguins, I’d count ahead to see how many pages I’d have to read until I got to the next illustration.
My early love for illustration foretold my career path in life. I majored in graphic design and illustration in college, and became an art director for magazines—hiring talented illustrators to interpret articles with their unique artwork. That all lead me to write and illustrate my middle grade novel, The Art of Being Remmy.
All these years, I’ve always made art--traveling to foreign countries to paint with other artists, painting furniture, and illustrating children’s books.
Being an artist and a writer makes me slow down to see and hear the world around me, and then share my vision. Let me share my world with you.
